Hi Janos,
It seems that CowLog is unable to read the length of your video file (maybe due to the format), which in turn causes the video window to stop responding. This a behavior which I haven't encountered before and it is clearly a bug in the code which I'll try address in the future.

You can sort of fix the bug by deleting or commenting out line 228 in /opt/CowLog/CowLog.py, which says:

ans = mp.stdout.readline()

I think it should fix the freeze, but it also means that the progress bar won't work. OR you could try to convert the video to a different format e.g. with mencoder and see if it works. I usually prefer mpeg4 and it hasn't given me any grief with CowLog.

I hope this helps and thanks for opening the forum!

I have a problem using CowLog with MPLayer on Kubuntu 9.10. I have installed the .deb package. After starting CowLog and choosing "File > Open Video" the "Open videofile" window is able to open MPlayer from which I can start playing the video, but the "Open videofile" window freezes. When I try closing it, I receive the error message "Open videofile is not responding." and "Force Quit" results in closing CowLog. Starting CowLog from Terminal returns the same result with the Terminal below. A s a novice to Linux, I am not sure if it is a CowLog or an MPlayer error, or just some configuration problem.

Bests, Janos

It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
